Centipede

Lithobius forficatus, the brown centipede showing metameric segmentation and arrangement of appendages with legs progressively longer towards posterior of animal. Dorsal dissection with alimentary canal and single pair of malpighian tubules to one side and large gonad to other side (yellow). Dorsal blood vessel is in place (blue), ventral nerve cord and subsidory sectional nerves shown in body (white) spiracles and trachea shown as brown in colour, gonad (yellow) with opening through the telson of the last segement, and venom glands(grey).  Model of the head is mounted with the ventral surface uppermost showing maxilla and enlarged forcibles for venom injection.
